The decision follows a motion by Rep. Kelechi Wogu, who highlighted the potential for widespread failure among students if the transition to CBT is rushed. He pointed out that many schools lack the necessary facilities, such as computer labs, internet access, and qualified teachers, to support such a significant change. Wogu recalled issues with the WAEC result portal in 2025, which caused distress among candidates, and emphasized that a successful CBT rollout requires thorough preparation.
The House has urged the Ministry of Education and state governments to allocate funds in upcoming budgets for essential resources, including the recruitment of computer teachers and the construction of equipped computer halls. They have recommended that a minimum of three years be devoted to preparation before implementing the CBT policy in the 2029-2030 academic session.
The resolution was adopted unanimously, with the House committees tasked to engage with stakeholders in the education and technology sectors and report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
