The Edo State Police Command has reported the recovery of the body of a 12-year-old boy, believed to have drowned in the Ikpoba River on November 17, 2025. The police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, stated that the body was found by operatives from the New Benin Division and has been sent to a hospital for autopsy.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death. In light of this tragic incident, the police have issued a warning to parents and guardians to be more vigilant regarding the safety of their children, especially during the festive and dry season when outdoor activities are more common.

Yamu emphasized the importance of children informing their parents before going out, avoiding isolated areas, and returning home early. He encouraged parents to educate their children about personal safety and the potential dangers of risky adventures.

The police are urging any parent or guardian with a missing child who fits the description to contact the New Benin Division. They reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property and called for public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities or missing persons.
