The Sokoto State Police Command has made significant arrests in their ongoing efforts to combat terrorism financing and organized crime. In a series of coordinated operations on Wednesday, police apprehended suspected financiers of banditry and members of a motorcycle theft ring operating in Sokoto and neighboring Zamfara State.

According to a statement from police spokesman Ahmed Rufai, three individuals were arrested in Tangaza Local Government Area for allegedly supporting a notorious bandit group by facilitating the sale of stolen cattle. One of the suspects, Ruwa Ginyo, identified as the Fulani head of Gidan-Madi, was taken into custody along with two accomplices. During the operation, police recovered four cows that had been rustled.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, emphasized the importance of cutting off the financial resources that sustain banditry, labeling the suspects as part of the “financial engine room” for these criminal activities. He stated that disrupting their funding is a significant achievement in the fight against bandits

In a separate operation, the Command’s Strike Force targeted Talata Mafara in Zamfara State, leading to the arrest of several individuals associated with a syndicate involved in motorcycle theft and resale. Two motorcycles that had been reported stolen in Sokoto were recovered during this raid.

Commissioner Musa highlighted the police’s commitment to extending their operational reach, asserting that criminals will no longer find sanctuary across state borders. He urged residents, especially those involved in livestock and motorcycle trades, to ensure they verify ownership documents before completing transactions and to remain vigilant by reporting any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
