The police command in Abuja has arrested four men for allegedly using the name of Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to defraud a retired military officer of N150 million.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, one of the suspects, Yashim Kajang, was arrested on Tuesday over the alleged scam involving A. K. Ibrahim, a retired major general, and others.
According to the report, Kajang allegedly lured the victims into believing that he worked with the FCT minister and director of lands and dubiously collected over N150 million to deliver land documents to them in respect of plot 1985 at Guzape II, measuring three hectares, and other plots.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect mentioned Stephen Mhambe and Danladi Jatau, both of the urban and regional planning department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA), as well as one Terngu Ipaven, of number two, Chief Palace road, Durumi 2, Abuja, as his accomplices,” Makama added.
The publication added that Kajang confessed that the other suspects — Mhambe, Jatau, and Ipaven — provided him with data and information on lands used in the alleged fraudulent scheme.
“The four suspects are currently under investigation,” Makama said.
