A father in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State, identified as Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing and impregnating his daughter multiple times, reportedly performing illegal abortions for each pregnancy.
The abuse is said to have begun in 2019 when the survivor, now 21 years old and whose name has been withheld for her safety, was taken in by her father after losing her mother as an infant. She was initially placed in a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos State, before being brought to Ijebu Ode under the pretense of guardianship.
The young woman disclosed that her father started sexually abusing her shortly after their relocation, leading to five pregnancies over the years. Each time, he allegedly arranged for her to have an abortion.
In February 2026, after enduring years of abuse, she escaped her father’s home due to the ongoing harassment and sought refuge in a church on Pakoto mountain. On March 26, 2026, she reported the situation to the Ifo division of the Ogun State Police Command, prompting a swift investigation.
Police operatives, acting on the survivor’s report, arrested Ewedemi, who is now in custody. The case has been forwarded to the Gender Desk for a thorough investigation and prosecution. This harrowing incident underscores the urgent need for protective measures and support for victims of sexual abuse, particularly within families.
