The recent attack on the convoy of former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige has raised significant concerns regarding security in the region. Although Ngige was not present during the incident, the attack resulted in injuries to members of the police escort and bystanders. Eyewitness reports indicate that the assailants, who were dressed in police and army uniforms, shot at the convoy, leading to a chaotic scene.
The police have confirmed that a policeman in the pilot car was shot but is expected to recover after undergoing surgery. A shop owner who attempted to assist was also shot but is reportedly stable and will recover. The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, noted that a white Mercedes-Benz SUV, which was stolen during the attack, has been recovered following a coordinated police response.
In light of the incident, the Anambra State Police Command has initiated a state-wide manhunt for the assailants, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring public safety and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
