Rotimi Amaechi has firmly rejected any suggestions that he might run as a vice-presidential candidate alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any other candidate in the upcoming 2027 elections. Amaechi, who has declared his intention to run for the presidency, emphasized that he will not accept a position as a running mate to anyone.

His statement follows comments made by Dele Momodu, a media entrepreneur and ally of Atiku, who suggested that Amaechi could be considered for a vice-presidential role if Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate, opts out of the race. Momodu highlighted Amaechi’s significant contributions to the political landscape, noting his pivotal role in supporting President Buhari’s rise to power.

In response to the speculation, Amaechi’s media aide, David Iyofor, reiterated that Amaechi’s ambition is strictly to become the President of Nigeria. Iyofor stated, “Amaechi is not seeking to be a running mate to anybody. He does not intend to be a presidential running mate to anybody and will not.” He further emphasized that Amaechi believes it is time for Southern Nigeria to have the presidency and is actively pursuing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Iyofor urged politicians to refrain from associating Amaechi’s name with any discussions about a vice-presidential candidacy, making it clear that Amaechi is focused solely on his presidential aspirations. After contesting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket in 2023, Amaechi switched to the ADC earlier this year and is now seeking that party’s nomination for the 2027 election.
