The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Kankarofi, has implemented a complete ban on the sale, distribution, and use of fireworks and related items as the Christmas and New Year festivities approach. This decision, communicated through a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP William Aya, aims to mitigate risks such as fire outbreaks, injuries, and security issues that often arise from the use of fireworks during this period.

CP Kankarofi has made it clear that individuals or groups found selling, possessing, or using fireworks in any setting—be it private homes, public spaces, markets, or event venues—will face arrest and legal action. To enforce this ban, the police will enhance patrols and surveillance across the state.
The Commissioner has urged residents, traders, community leaders, and event organizers to comply with the ban and work cooperatively with law enforcement. He also encouraged the public to remain alert and report any illegal fireworks activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency contacts.

This directive comes in light of recent security breaches in Kogi State, prompting Governor Ahmed Ododo to issue a restriction order that mandates all social and religious activities conclude by 4 p.m. daily until further notice.
