AFCON 2025: Ndidi Downplays Osimhen, Lookman Rift, Says Everything is Fine

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has played down reports of a rift between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, insisting that a recent on-field incident was simply the result of a shared competitive mindset.

Speaking to ESPN after Monday’s game, the Besiktas midfielder explained that the moment stemmed from two players pushing for more during the game, rather than any underlying issue.

“It was just a competitive mindset. We wanted more, and that moment was made possible by two people who wanted more. That was what really happened at that moment,” Ndidi said.

He added that the situation had already been addressed internally, stressing that there were no lingering problems within the squad

Everything is fine, and we have thrashed it out in the dressing room. We are in this together,” he said

Ndidi’s comments are expected to calm speculation, reaffirming the unity within the team and their collective focus on achieving their goals for the season.

Also reacting, Ademola said, “I have not seen Osimhen, but I don’t think that matters. Vic is our number one guy; everybody knows this. He’s a top striker. So, all of that doesn’t matter,” Lookman said.

It’s just football. It’s always football. He is my brother,” he added

Nigerian football fans criticised Osimhen for his angry outburst at teammate Lookman during Monday’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16.
