The Edo State Police Command has made a significant arrest in Uromi, apprehending a woman named Martina Dachung for allegedly selling her newborn baby for ₦1.4 million. The arrest was confirmed by the police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, on January 10, 2026.

The investigation began after a local resident, Ebhomien Matthew Asibor, reported suspicious child-trafficking activities involving Dachung. Following this tip, police operatives from the Iruekpen Divisional Headquarters arrested Dachung, who subsequently led them to two additional suspects: Matron Ighalo Grace from Eguavon Medical Centre and Oha Promise, both believed to be involved in facilitating the illegal transaction.

The police confirmed that the newborn baby boy was safely recovered, and evidence of the ₦1,400,000 payment was also secured. The suspects are expected to face charges in court once the investigation concludes.

Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, emphasized the command’s dedication to fighting criminal activities in the state and encouraged the public to continue providing valuable information to aid law enforcement efforts.
