In a recent statement, former Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Abdulrahman Galadima, has openly condemned Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decision to switch allegiance from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Galadima characterized this move as a profound betrayal of the trust and expectations of the Kano populace.
Galadima, who himself transitioned from the APC to the NNPP in the wake of the 2023 general elections, expressed his disappointment, asserting that Yusuf’s defection appears to be motivated by personal gain rather than the well-being of the citizens. He emphasized that such actions undermine the core principles of democracy and disregard the mandate bestowed upon the governor by the electorate.
In light of these developments, Galadima has urged other elected officials who were elected under the NNPP banner to remain committed to the party and prioritize the interests of the people they represent. The defection has ignited significant controversy, leading to resignations among some government officials who have protested against Yusuf’s decision.
Galadima has called for intervention from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities, stressing the importance of elected officials honoring their party affiliations and the democratic mandate granted by the voters.
