In an effort to maintain order and compliance with traffic regulations, the Chairman of the House Committee on Transport, Hon. Eric Okaka, along with the Managing Director of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA), Mr. Stainless Jegede, and the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Uwuilekhue Saturday Idehen, actively participated in a monitoring exercise at King’s Square. Their primary objective was to ensure that vehicles, including cars and buses, are not parked in unauthorized locations.

During the operation, Hon. Eric Okaka emphasized the importance of adhering to existing laws, stating that compliance is non-negotiable. He highlighted the need for all drivers to respect the regulations in place.

Mr. Stainless Jegede addressed the drivers, asserting that the government will not yield to any form of blackmail. He noted that drivers operating from the Central Park are the ones who abide by the law and reiterated that it is illegal to park, pick up, or drop off passengers in unauthorized areas.

Hon. Uwuilekhue Saturday Idehen reinforced the commitment to combating unlawful parking, indicating that those caught violating the rules, including drivers, conductors, and passengers, would be arrested and prosecuted in a mobile court.

The Deputy Task Force Commander of Edo State, Mr. Jabi Osula, commended the collaborative efforts of the EDSTMA Managing Director, the House Committee Chairman on Transport, and the Commissioner for Transport in their initiative to return all drivers to the Central Park.

The officials collectively warned all commercial drivers in Benin to strictly adhere to the regulations to avoid facing legal consequences.
