The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to digital transformation with the training of Edo Cloud, also known as Edogov 2:0 Team Leads, as part of efforts to fully deploy the newly designed, state-owned electronic governance platform across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

The five-day intensive training for Edo Cloud, also known as Edogov 2.0 Team Leads, organised by the Office of the Head of Service, at the State Government House, Benin City, was designed to equip team leads with in-depth knowledge of the Edo Cloud, also known as Edogov 2.0.
platform ahead of its cascading to MDAs.

Speaking at the training, the Edo State Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, stated that the introduction of Edo Cloud, also known as Edogov 2.0, has changed the narrative around electronic governance in the state, noting that previous criticisms of the system were largely not supported by facts.

According to him, the Senator Monday Okpebholo-led administration has moved beyond rhetoric by delivering a functional, homegrown, and sustainable electronic governance solution designed by professionals within the public service.

Commending the Governor for his foresight, Dr. Okungbowa explained that the decision to co-create and design the platform with civil servants guarantees sustainability, institutional ownership, and continuity, adding that the state-owned nature of the software ensures full control over data, processes, and future upgrades.

Emphasising the need for extensive and hands-on training, the Head of Service stressed that the Edo Cloud, also known as the Edogov 2.0 platform, comes with enhanced features that require practical understanding for effective deployment.

He explained that the platform was designed to accommodate the diverse workflows of MDAs, making it adaptable to varying operational needs while also addressing staff transfers across MDAs without compromising data integrity. He added that data sovereignty remains a major gain of the new system, as Edo State now fully controls its digital infrastructure.

Furthermore, Dr. Okungbowa disclosed that the successful deployment of Edo Cloud, also known as Edogov 2.0, would reposition Edo State as a leading subnational government in electronic governance in Nigeria, expressing confidence that the team leads, having undergone rigorous training, would play a critical role in driving adoption and effective utilisation of the platform.

Appreciating the facilitator and participants for their commitment and patience throughout the training period, the Head of Service described the exercise as an investment in the future of the Edo public service, assuring them that the benefits would be far-reaching.

Also speaking, the facilitator and Technical Team Lead for Edo Cloud, also known as Edogov 2:0, Dr. Benjamin Ben, said the training provided an opportunity to examine the application holistically and address potential challenges that may arise during the cascading process to MDAs.

The Facilitator noted that the hands-on nature of the training has enabled team leads to fully understand the new workflows and functionalities. He explained that the platform was enhanced based on lessons learnt from the limitations of the previous application, leading to changes in some processes.

Dr. Ben added that the training allowed for the design of customised workflows suited to MDAs’ operational realities, ensuring smoother onboarding and minimal resistance to change. He assured the Head of Service that following the success of the team leads’ training, the next phase would involve the Edo Cloud, also known as Edogov 2:0 champions, who, alongside the trained team leads, would collectively train officers across MDAs to ensure seamless adoption of the platform statewide.
