Gunmen Kidnapped Police Inspector, Family Members, Student, Others in Edo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted a Police Inspector, wife, daughter and two others in Edo State.

According to Access TV Nig., the kidnapped victims are identified as Inspector, Segun Obanowa, Miss Tope Oriloye, and one Samuel Ilesanmi while the names of the Police Inspector’s wife and daughter were yet to be ascertained.

The Police Officer and his family were alleged to have been abducted at their residence in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government while Miss Tope Oriloye, a female secondary school student and Samuel Ilesanmi were kidnapped at Makeke community health centre in Akoko- Edo Local Government Area on February 8, 2026.

Tope Oriloye and Samuel Ilesanmi were allegedly kidnapped when the gunmen invaded the community’s health centre.

Samuel Ilesanmi was reportedly abducted when he rushed his son to the health centre with his wife.

Bode Ekundayo, the National Coordinator of the Movement for the Advancement of Akoko Edo People disclosed this on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 in a statement in Benin City.

Ekundayo, said the abductors of the Police Inspector, an indigene of Uma/Imoga community, in Akoko Edo local government area of the state, released his wife to raise money for the payment of an undisclosed amount demanded by the gunmen for her husband and daughter.

He also added that the abductors have contacted the families of Miss Tope Oriloye and Samuel Ilesanmi demanding the sum of N100 million ransom for both victims.

He added that as soon as the news of the kidnapping hit the community, Makeke hunters and vigilantes mobilised and entered the wilderness, combing far and near till the early hours of the following day, all their efforts to no avail.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem confirmed the kidnap at the Makeke health centre.

According to her, we recorded a kidnapping at Akoko-Edo Local Government Area where a staff member of a health centre was abducted.

Ikoedem said some suspects have been arrested while the investigation is still ongoing.

“We have arrested some suspects. We are still investigating and everything is being done within our power to secure the safe return of the victims and arrest perpetrators of the crime,” she said.
