Operatives of the Edo State Police have arrested six suspected kidnappers in several communities in Edo Central senatorial district.

This feat, according to Edo Police spokesman, DSP Eno Ikoedem, was after forests around Ubiaja, Esan South East local government area, were identified as key areas of security concern.

Ikoedem said a national of the Republic of Niger, who resides in Kaba, Kogi State. Suleman Harruna, was nabbed by operatives of Ubiaja Division through technical intelligence.

She said the suspect was identified as a member of a notorious kidnapping gang alongside, saying, he has made useful confessions.

Ikoedem said another suspect, Ibrahim Kodo, was arrested and was identified by a kidnapped victim as one of the three armed men who kidnapped him last year.

She said other suspects were arrested during a bush-combing operation at the Onogholọ and Akwocha forests.

According to her, “During the operation, four suspected kidnappers opened fire on the advancing security team but were subdued by the superior firepower of the operatives. One of the suspects was neutralized in the ensuing gun duel while three others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.

“Recovered from the scene were one single-barreled shotgun, one black facial mask, two live cartridges and two expended cartridges. Bush-combing operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, commends the Divisional Police Officer, Ubiaja Division, and his team for their resilience, professionalism and sustained operational tempo which has led to these laudable successes.”
