The Federal Road Safety Corps has ordered the nationwide deployment of personnel and operational logistics for its 2026 Eid el-Fitr special patrol operations, aimed at ensuring safe travel during the festive period.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the operation will run from March 17 to March 22, 2026, as part of efforts to reduce road crashes and maintain smooth traffic flow on major highways across Nigeria.

In a statement on Monday, the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, quoted Mohammed as explaining that the special patrol aligns with the corps’ statutory responsibility of promoting safer road use nationwide.

It will involve increased patrol visibility, strategic deployment of rescue teams, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns to guide motorists during the Sallah celebrations.

Meanwhile, Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni has directed security agencies to deploy proactive measures to safeguard lives and property before, during and after the Eid el-Fitr Sallah celebrations.

Governor Buni, represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, gave the order on Monday at an expanded security meeting in Damaturu, urging operatives to maintain a visible presence across the state’s 17 local government areas and strengthen surveillance along border communities.

“In a bid to curb insecurity, we must enhance intelligence-led patrols and foster synergy among security formations to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the festive period”, he said.

Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, Emmanuel Ado, said the meeting reviewed recent security breaches in neighbouring states and assessed local vulnerabilities.
He announced the enforcement of a ban on vehicles without number plates or with covered plates, describing the practice as a security risk.

Ado described the state as relatively calm but assured that measures have been put in place for a hitch-free Sallah celebration.
