More Crisis Hit PDP as Sen. Aduda Resigns From The Party

The immediate past senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Philip Aduda, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing ongoing crises within the party.

Aduda communicated his decision in a letter dated March 17, 2026, addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Karu Ward, Abuja.

In the letter, he described his resignation as effective immediately, citing persistent party conflicts as the reason.

In the letter titled, ‘Notice of resignation of my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party’, Aduda wrote, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party.

I remain grateful for the opportunity the party gave me to serve in various elective positions in our nation.

Please, accept the assurances of my high esteem.”

Aduda’s departure adds to a growing wave of defections that have reshaped the Senate.

Recently, three PDP senators — Amos Yohanna (Adamawa North), Aminu Iyal Abbas (Adamawa Central), and Ikra Aliyu Bilbis (Zamfara North) — joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, strengthening the APC’s hold with 84 senators. These moves have reduced the PDP’s Senate representation from 17 to 14 members.

Meanwhile, five PDP senators have also moved to the African Democratic Congress, which now stands as the main opposition in the Senate with nine members.
