Vitel Wireless Unveils “Unexpired data” in Nigeria

Nigeria’s newest telecom entrant,Vitel Wireless, has launched a “data that never expires” campaign aimed at tackling one of the most persistent complaints among mobile users; rapid depletion of data bundles.

The company, licensed by the Nigerian Communications Commission, unveiled the initiative at a recent event in Lagos, positioning it as a consumer-focused solution shaped by real-life experiences of Nigerians, especially youths and small business owners.

Chairman of the firm, Kenneth Neabueze, said the new model allows subscribers to retain purchased data indefinitely until it is fully used.

“What we are saying to Nigerians is simple, you buy the data, and you keep it for as long as you want. No more buying 2GB for a few days only for it to expire. Under our scheme, it stays with you,” he said.

He noted that the approach promotes transparency, cost savings, and greater control for users, particularly in a challenging economic climate.

According to him, research conducted by the company revealed that many Nigerians lose data due to expiry timelines, often at critical moments such as during academic work or business activities.

Industry context shows that Vitel Wireless operates as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO); a telecom model in which companies provide mobile services without owning the underlying network infrastructure.

Instead, MVNOs lease capacity from established network operators, allowing them to focus on innovation, pricing, and customer experience rather than building costly physical infrastructure.

This model has gained traction globally for enabling new entrants to compete by offering niche or consumer-friendly services.

Beyond its flagship data offering, Vitel Wireless introduced a range of digital products, including the Vitel Xphone, designed to integrate voice, video, and messaging through a combination of GSM and VoIP technologies.

The company said its services are available through both physical SIM cards and eSIMs, with users able to retain existing numbers or migrate seamlessly.

It also promised nationwide coverage across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with full access to voice, SMS, USSD, and mobile data services.

Chief Operating Officer, Chudi Nwabueze, described the firm as a technology-driven telecom operator focused on delivering innovative solutions beyond traditional offerings.

“We are coming in with innovations that will help people run their businesses, manage their homes, and improve their daily lives,” he said, adding that eSIM technology enables users to operate multiple lines on compatible devices.

As part of its broader ecosystem, the company rolled out tools such as the Oga App for workforce management, alongside SecureMe and Asset Tracker solutions for personal safety and business asset monitoring.

Vitel Wireless also challenged consumers to compare its pricing with existing operators, highlighting discounts on higher data volumes without expiry restrictions.

In addition, the firm is expanding its reach through a distribution network that allows Nigerians to sign up as mobile agents nationwide, according to its partnership team.

With its entry into the market and a strong focus on non-expiring data, Vitel Wireless is seeking to disrupt Nigeria’s telecom landscape, offering what it describes as a fairer and more flexible approach to connectivity.
