Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has directed motorists and traders operating along major roads around Iwo Road in Ibadan to vacate the areas immediately and relocate to the designated Iwo Road Bus Terminal Park.
This, according to OYRTMA, is part of efforts to restore order, ease traffic congestion, and enhance environmental sanity in the area.
The Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd), who led an enforcement and inspection team to the Iwo Road Bus Terminal on Wednesday, said the agency received reports that motorists and traders had abandoned the government-built facility, resulting in heavy traffic congestion along adjoining roads.
He noted that several commercial drivers and traders expected to operate within the terminal had returned to the roadside.
Major Adesagba (Rtd) warned that the continued presence of traders on the roadside could lead to serious traffic congestion and accidents. He explained that roadside trading reduces the available space for vehicles to move freely, thereby increasing the risk of gridlock and crashes.
He also noted that parks and vehicles operating outside the designated terminal contribute to disorder and traffic problems, stressing that such practices defeat the purpose of the government-built facility.
He said the development has led to disunity among operators, with some choosing to remain outside the terminal based on local government affiliations.
Adesagba emphasised the need for unity among all PMS members and strict compliance with government directives. He advised that all motorists and traders should relocate fully into the bus terminal provided by the government, warning that no one should operate outside the designated facility.
He further stated that the government remains committed to ensuring orderliness, safety, and effective traffic management across the state, adding that continued defiance would not be tolerated.
