Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna, has arrived at the state high court in Kaduna.

TheCable understands that he would proceed to the federal high court in Kaduna afterwards for the hearing of his bail application.

He arrived at the court on Tuesday following his release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for his mother’s burial.

On March 24, the court adjourned the bail hearing to March 31 after the defendant was arraigned on charges bordering on fraud and money laundering.

El-Rufai was released on March 27 on compassionate grounds. Hajiya Umma, el-Rufai’s mother, died in Egypt on Friday, where she was receiving medical treatment.

The funeral prayer was attended by dignitaries, including Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president; Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Group; Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Rotimi Amaechi; former minister of transportation; and Isa Pantami, former minister of communications and digital economy.

Before his arraignment on March 24, the former Kaduna governor had been in the custody of the ICPC since February 19, after he was released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On March 18, the ICPC said it secured a valid court order to extend el-Rufai’s detention amid calls for his release.
