Some gunmen suspected to be robbers have invaded student hostels at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ibogun Campus, in a late-night attack that triggered panic as students fled for safety.

The incident, which began around midnight and extended into the early hours of Saturday, saw over 12 armed men storm multiple hostels, firing sporadically and dispossessing students of phones, laptops, and other valuables.

An X user, Michael Mabayomije, who shared his account online, said the attackers operated for several minutes without immediate resistance, leaving several students injured and many others traumatised.

Blood stains believed to be from injured victims were reportedly seen on the walls and floors of one of the affected hostels.

Residents of Ibogun described the incident as chaotic and distressing, with gunshots echoing across the campus as students scrambled to escape. Some victims were said to have sustained injuries while attempting to flee or resist the attackers.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that an investigation had commenced.

Babaseyi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, added that the Divisional Police Officer of Ibogun Division and the Area Commander had been deployed to the scene to assess the situation and reassure students and residents of their safety.
