Despite the government’s ongoing efforts to curb the practice of picking up and dropping off passengers in the bustling King Square, many commercial bus drivers continue to operate in the area, albeit with increased caution compared to previous times when they would load full buses without concern. Hon. Uwuilekhue Saturday Idehen, the Commissioner for Transport, stated that the government is committed to ensuring that the city remains clean and free from obstructions. He emphasized that no trucks are allowed to load or unload goods on Forestry, Mission Road, and Oba Market during daytime hours.
In a conversation with Mr. Jabi Osula, one of the enforcement officers, he reiterated the importance of keeping the Ring Road and its surroundings sanitized. He urged all drivers to utilize the Benin Central Park for their operations.
Some commuters voiced their concerns to our news team, suggesting that the government should implement stricter measures to prevent drivers from picking up and dropping off passengers along the Ring Road and its vicinity. They expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts to redirect drivers back to the Central Park, noting that the increasing congestion at King Square is becoming problematic.
Overall, while there has been some compliance, the situation continues to require attention and enforcement to ensure the safety and orderliness of the city’s transport system.
