In light of a disturbing video circulating on social media, allegedly featuring a self-proclaimed bandit making threats in the Ekpoma area and surrounding communities of the Edo Central Senatorial District, the Edo State Government is taking decisive action to ensure the safety of its residents.
Governor Monday Okpebholo has been fully briefed on the situation and has convened a high-level security meeting to address the emerging threats. Since taking office, Governor Okpebholo has prioritized security and has implemented comprehensive strategies to combat criminal activities in the state.
As part of these efforts, the Governor has initiated a statewide surveillance program targeting key transportation routes, including the Benin–Auchi Expressway, Ekpoma–Uromi Road, and the Benin Bypass, among others. These measures aim to facilitate early detection of criminal activities and enable swift responses to any threats.
Following the Governor’s directives, various security agencies—including the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local vigilante groups, and the Edo State Special Security Squad—have launched intensified operations across forests and border communities known for criminal activities. These operations include ongoing search-and-comb missions, enhanced intelligence gathering, and coordinated patrols to eliminate safe havens for criminal elements.
The government has reported significant progress, with several arrests made related to recent security incidents, and additional leads are being actively pursued.
The Edo State Government emphasizes that these security operations will continue until every part of the state—urban centers, rural communities, and transit corridors—are secured for residents, commuters, and investors alike.
Citizens are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies. The government advises against spreading misinformation and panic driven narratives, particularly those based on unverified content.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirms his commitment to protecting lives and property in Edo State and will continue to employ all lawful measures to ensure that criminality is effectively addressed.
