Eleven Died in Edo Auto Crash, Others Injured as Driver Attempts to Overtake

It was a tragic sight as eleven persons were confirmed dead in an accident that happened on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Okhuahe, a surbub community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

Punch reports that Okhuahe is on the Benin-Asaba highway axis of the state.

Seven others were said to have sustained varying degree of injuries in the accident.

It was gathered that the accident occurred when the driver of an 18 seater bus heading towards
Lagos dangerously overtook another vehicle and had a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle.

Edo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, confirmed the accident.

“The bus attempted to overtake another vehicle and in the process had an head-on collision with the oncoming vehicle, killing 11 persons on the spot,” he said.

He said the corpse were evacuated to the morgue while the injured ones were rush to the hospital for treatment.
