Gunmen Abduct Pregnant Woman in Ondo as 85-Year-Old Victim Escapes

Gunmen have again abducted a pregnant woman, Mrs Mary Jesulayomi at Ayede community in Akure North council area of Ondo State.

Recall that few days ago unknown gunmen abducted a proprietress of a primary school, Mrs Oladeinde Tomilola, and shot three other persons at Ilu-Abo community, in the same council area of the state.

They stormed the her residence, located at Liberty Avenue, Iluabo area, at about 8 p.m., shot at her vehicle and whisked her away to an unknown destination.

Her whereabouts remained unknown at the time of filling in this report.

Tuesday night

Meanwhile, on the pregnant woman, who was abducted on Tuesday night, it was gathered that the hoodlums stormed the community, which is a few meters away from the Federal Secretariat complex , Akure.

They started shooting sporadically into the air, causing pandemonium in the agarian community.

An old man in the community, Pa Ogunleye Mese narrated that the hoodlums entered and attacked the community at about 7 p.m.

Survivor

Mse said the gunmen attempted to abduct him and his wife, but both of them managed to escape.

They came to my house, and wanted to kidnap me. But I managed to escape. They initially abducted my wife and a pregnant woman, who came to buy something in our shop.

“My wife too managed to escape, but they took the pregnant woman away,” he narrated.

Also, a local said: “A kidnap case occurred on Tuesday around 7:40 p.m. at Ayede community near Alagbaka Extension, Akure, where one Mrs Mary Jesulayomi (pregnant woman) was captured and taken away.

“Mrs Ogunleye Mese, an 85-year-old woman was also kidnapped, but was later released.

Her husband, a 90-year-old baba, Pa Ogunleye Mese, suffered injury in the process.”

Police story

Contacted, the state police command spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the abduction of the pregnant woman.

Jimoh said: “A kidnap case occurred yesterday around 7.40 p.m., at Ayede community near Alagbaka Extension, Akure, where one Mrs Mary Jesulayomi was captured and taken away.

“An 85-year-old woman was also kidnapped, but was later released, while her husband, a 90-year-old Baba, Pa Ogunleye Mese suffered injury in the process.

“The Command has deployed tactical teams to the scene and efforts are ongoing towards the rescue of the victim and apprehension of the perpetrators of the crime.

“Upon receipt of the report, the command has deployed tactical teams to the scene. Efforts are ongoing towards rescuing the victim and arrest the perpetrators of the crime.”
