The Senate of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has approved the rustication of 20 students found guilty of various forms of examination malpractice.

In a statement issued by the university’s Director of Information and Protocol, Nasiru M. Abdul, the decision, effective from the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session, was reached during the university’s 138th Regular Senate Meeting held this week at the Twin Theatre of the institution’s main campus.

According to the statement, after the Senate considered and adopted the report of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, Mohammed Khalid Othman, said the action followed due process and was in line with the university’s regulations.

He added that the decision was taken in accordance with Section 13.3, Subsection 13.3(c), of the institution’s policy on examination irregularities and academic misconduct.

The statement said Prof. Othman commended members of the disciplinary committee for their commitment to upholding the university’s standards and ensuring that justice was served fairly and firmly.

He noted that the Senate’s action was aimed at sending a strong warning to students against violating examination rules.

“The decision is meant to send clear signals to all students to brace up and do the needful, and also serve as a deterrent to those who may want to cut corners by disregarding the university’s rules and regulations governing examinations,” the statement quoted the VC as saying.

It further revealed that all the affected students were given the opportunity to appear before the committee to defend themselves before the final decision was taken.
