A 100-level student of Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State, William Fubara, has died following alleged repeated bullying and physical assaults he suffered from fellow students.
Accounts shared by friends and circulating online claimed that the deceased was subjected to sustained harassment over several months, reportedly due to his perceived effeminate mannerisms and suspicions about his sexuality. Some sources also alleged that incidents of intimidation, including searches of students’ phones over suspicions of homosexuality, had occurred previously within the hostel environment, although the claims have not been independently verified.
Friends of Fubara further insisted that they possessed messages, testimonies and other personal records allegedly documented by him prior to his death, detailing his experiences and identifying individuals he believed were responsible for the harassment.
It was also alleged that in earlier incidents within the institution, some students had faced disciplinary measures, including suspension, over accusations of harassment involving fellow students. However, full details of such cases remained unclear at press time.
Fubara was reportedly hospitalised after developing severe medical complications, including repeated seizure episodes. He was later admitted into intensive care (ICU), where he died.
The university authorities were said to have commenced internal investigations into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
