The Kogi State government has firmly denied any negotiations with kidnappers in a recent abduction case, asserting that the victims were successfully rescued by security forces following a gun battle. Kingsley Fanwo, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, made these statements during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief program.

Key points from Fanwo’s statements include:

1. No Negotiations with Kidnappers: Fanwo emphasized that the Kogi State government does not engage in negotiations with criminals or kidnappers. He stated, “In Kogi State, we don’t negotiate with kidnappers and criminals,” reinforcing the government’s stance against yielding to criminal demands.
2. Successful Rescue Operation: The commissioner clarified that the rescue operation was conducted by security operatives who engaged in an exchange of gunfire with the kidnappers. He reported that the operation resulted in casualties on both sides, with two members of the security forces losing their lives.

3. Hostile Environment for Criminals: Fanwo expressed that Kogi State is known as a “no-go area” for kidnappers, suggesting that criminals are aware of the state’s strong stance against such activities. He indicated that the government possesses the capability to confront and eliminate criminal elements within the state.
4. Firm Government Stance: The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to not negotiate with criminals, stating, “We are not going to negotiate with any criminal.” This reflects a broader policy approach aimed at deterring criminal activities in the region.

The Kogi State government’s position highlights its commitment to combating kidnapping and ensuring the safety of its citizens, despite the risks involved in direct confrontations with criminal groups.
