Traders, business owners and residents along the Sapele Road axis in Benin City have praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for finally fixing the long-abandoned Benin–Sapele Road.

Many described the reconstruction as a huge relief after years of hardship caused by the road’s terrible condition. According to them, the bad road affected their daily lives, slowed business activities and discouraged customers.

A transporter,Amadi Great said “My brother,I can’t really appreciate the governor enough but to say God bless him. This spot where I am now was not possible to get to. Even that time governor Obaseki as governor could not pass here. His vehicle was stocked here and he was crying that this is federal road. Thank God Okpebholo has done it for us”.

A second-hand clothing trader, Mrs. Romary Obazee, said the difference is clear.

“We are very happy now. Before, the road was terrible, and customers found it hard to come here. Today, vehicles move easily, and transporting goods is no longer a problem. Our sales have improved,” she said, while urging the government to ensure contractors finish the remaining sections quickly, especially with the rainy season close.

Also speaking, a battery and car accessories dealer, Mr. Richard Erahbor, recalled how the area used to be cut off whenever it rained.

“This place used to be flooded and impassable. Now, the road is good and motorable. We can truly say this government has kept its promise. Business is better because people can now move freely,” he said.

A vulcanizer, Mr. Osaro Nosa, added that the improved road has brought back customers and increased daily income for traders in the area.

Residents also commended the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, and Governor Okpebholo for personally inspecting the project to ensure quality work and proper use of public funds.

So far, several failed portions of the road have been repaired, while other sections are still being rebuilt. From Ring Road through Sapele Road to the bypass, the improved road has eased traffic and revived business activities, bringing fresh hope to the entire axis.
